Google AI Assistant Life Advice Trials: Google has been working really hard this year to improve its Machine Learning technology. They joined together their research lab called DeepMind from London with their artificial intelligence team called Brain from Silicon Valley. This happened in April, and it has helped them do even better research on smart technology.
In only four months, this teamwork has led to some really cool experiments. They are trying out new ideas using a type of smart technology called generative Machine Intelligence. This is what makes chatbots like ChatGPT from OpenAI and Bard from Google work. They want to make this technology act like a personal life mentor.
The Google DeepMind team is busy trying out this generative Machine Intelligence on 21 different tasks. These tasks include things like giving life advice, coming up with new and creative ideas, making smart plans, and even teaching useful things.
Employees are actively testing the assistant’s capabilities by addressing personal inquiries regarding individuals’ life challenges. They were given a hypothetical scenario mirroring a potential user query: “My close friend’s winter wedding is a destination event, and I can’t afford travel costs due to unemployment. How do I explain my absence despite our strong connection from college to my wedding?”
The project has a cool feature that can suggest advice for different situations. It can also teach new skills or help get better at ones you already know, like getting better at running. It can even help you plan your money, meals, and exercises.
Last December, Google’s smart people who care about safety warned that using smart computer stuff for life advice too much might make people less healthy and feel like they have less control. They also said some folks might start to think the computer is really smart and knows everything if they use it too much. In March, when they started Bard, Google said it can’t give medical, money, or law advice. Instead, it helps people find ways to feel better if they’re feeling bad.
