Chinese startup DeepSeek, owned by High-Flyer, definitely made waves, entering the world of AI, and everyone is wondering what it can do… Is the newly emerged DeepSeek R1 model really outperforming OpenAI o1, or is it all a PR stunt?
The facts are, that ‘DeepSeek – AI Assistant’ has become the most downloaded free app on the App Store, and has matched the user rating of the ChatGPT app on Google Play! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
DeepSeek
DeepSeek PROS:
- ‘DeepThink’ functionality, helping it excel in problem solving, logical reasoning and data analysis, tackling ChatGPT’s weaknesses. It acts as ‘AI intuition’, making DeepSeek-R1 look smarter than other chatbots in certain scenarios.
- Generates truly concise summaries with great accuracy, contrary to similar AI assistants.
- Impressive writing capabilities, providing engaging copy.
- Responds with ethical consideration.
- Triggers precise examples for complex translations.
- Impeccable code generation.
- Advanced paid version, available at a very low cost (from $0.50 per month).
DeepSeek CONS:
- Occasional ‘busy server’ error messages.
- Current DeepSeek version V3 doesn’t have a voice mode.
- No image generation functionality.
- When prompted to create code, DeepSeek doesn’t provide the option to edit it, unlike GPT omni.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT PROS:
- Voice mode, available to paid users.
- Code editing functionality, facilitating programmers.
- Free version can be accessed without creating an account/ logging in.
- Incorporates basic prompt examples, like “Help me write […]”, Summarize […]” etc.
- Well-established market leader.
ChatGPT CONS:
- High error rate.
- Inconsistent quality of responses, sometimes lacking clarity, or ethical consideration.
- Rigid copywriting skills, missing originality.
So, are the DeepSeek claims true?
According to our tests, when presented with the same prompts, DeepSeek DOES OUTPERFORM ChatGPT in creative copy generation, brief summaries, idiom translation, math equations, and some complex tasks!
DeepSeek was just as fast as ChatGPT, and just as good at code generation, but it did show overload errors on several occasions.
DeepSeek is considerably cheaper than ChatGPT, however, it currently lacks a voice mode, and it doesn’t provide a code editing option. OpenAI offers some other user-friendly extras too. You reckon High-Flyer is incorporating them into the next version of DeepSeek as we speak? 🤩
